Daring Fireball suggests that Apple deliberately priced to grow the market and its share of the market and not just to make big per-unit profit as it did at the iPhone launch (whereupon Apple promptly dropped the price to grow share, based on evidence the market for the phones was a lot richer a hundred bucks or so cheaper).
